If you encounter problems downloading files from NERSC, NERSC's /project filesystem may be down. Starting with version 2.13 all the download files are hosted from GitHub, so you shouldn't experience any download problems. If you need a parallel version for a platform not already provided you will need to build visit from source (available here). Prior to that, the executables listed on this page only contain serial versions of VisIt unless the platform description indicates that it contains parallel support. Starting with version 3.0.2, all the executables have parallel support through the use of MPICH. The checksums and file sizes are provided for checking that the files were properly downloaded if corruption of the files is suspected during the download process. Instructions for installing VisIt can be found in the install notes. The Windows executables are packaged in a self contained installer. The Mac executable comes in a DMG file that you use to install VisIt. The unix executable requires downloading an install script along with the file containing the executable.
